The pot I had begun it in was obviously not going to be big enough, so I decided to put it into the roasting pan. When it was removed by Sean (works in the bldg) around noon:30, it was still full of water. Too much water for the ingredients. So I turned on the two burners under it (it's a big pan), brought it to a boil, added about 1/2 cup of pearl barley and two bay leaves, turned the heat down to just between low and medium and recovered it, though not as tightly.
About an hour later I took a peek and it was perfect. :-) Gotta love that barley. Anyhow, I tasted it and I wasn't happy. So I added some dried herbs which I ground up first. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Of course, when we sat down to eat it, I had to add some garlic. .. the 6 cloves weren't sufficient for me. *grin*
Next time I think I'll put in some mushrooms too.
Did it again. I've taken a recipe that is centuries old and changed it. Sigh. This is why I can't bake. Recipes are merely guidlines for me.
