for someone who's not celebrating a seder, or Passover, I did a lot of cooking today. I made the chicken soup with 1/2 the chicken and I'm roasting the other half for dinner tomorrow night. The soup pot is currently in front of the open kitchen window. Montreal in April ... the outdoors is my fridge.
Why yes... it is snowing. :-)
I decided to make cholent. I've never made it before. I had to wait until tonight for the meat, but the navy beans were soaked for about 20 hours. *grin* I am passionately in love with my Tupperware peeler. It is now very easy to peel almost anything lying on my back. :-)
Anyhow... it's got carrots and onions and garlic and beef and potatoes and navy beans and barley and salt and pepper. and water. :-) We shall see. I had my neighbour come over to put it in the oven where it will sit at 200 C for the next 12 hours. :-) It's usually begun the two days before Shabbat. Beans overnight on Thursday and then before Shabbat starts, it goes onto the Blech (a pan put over the burners so Orthodox jews don't have to light the stove)where it sits for about 12 hours until Shabbat lunch the next day. We'll see. :-0
Needless to say, there was no walking tonight. I was definitely up for too long today. But man does my apt. smell good.
So, for all those celebrating, Chag Pesach sameach.
